Liberty has never come from the government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of government. The history of liberty is the history of resistance. The history of liberty is a history of the limitation of governmental power, not the increase of it --Woodrow Wilson

Free Speach still alive and well in Sweden

Today it was announced that the pentecostal priest Ake Green of Oland, Sweden has been acquitted of all charges under the (abominable) Swedish Hate crime act. This initiated law by politically correct nincompoops that thinks that a law against something will actually improve the situation.

Ya, as if the ban on alcohol during prohibition made people stop drinking or like the hike in taxes on cigarettes made people stop smoking. Of course such a law only serves a purpose to give undue credit to racial slurs, gay bashings and so on, the society says that they can't respond to the arguments made by these so we shall simply outlaw it, and then it will all just go away...

Idiots, censorship never helps.
So, what has happened then?
Ake Green gave a sermon in which he calls gays a "tumour on society", for this he was charged and convicted in the lower courts, he appealed and Gota Hovratt, second instance acquitted Reveren Green on grounds of Free Speech, boy was I happy that day. Shows that the Legal system (at least on the higher courts with majority professional judges) works to protect free speech. Of course Swedish national prosecuter chose to appeal to the supreme court, and they have now given their ruling. Free Speech and Freedom of Religion protects Akes statements. Boy, am I happy :D

Point of fact, I do not agree with Ake, personally I think he is a very sad and probably lone figure but he has a right of free speach, and I want to defend that right. Just sad that he will be the one to challenge a stupid and toothles law, but better challenged than not.

Iran and nuclear warheads

According to new findings Iran have in their possession plans on how to make nuclear warheads. Mohamed El-Baradei, the chairman of the IAEA revealed the news in Geneva to the member states gathered there.

The EU led by the UK are in negotiations with Iran currently to make Iran only develop peaceful nuclear power, but it seems Iran under president Jalal Talabani is bent on getting the nuke for their own purposes.
One can wonder to what end they need it.

The US is understandably not as lenient in their remarks as the UK, the quote was that "Iran is digging themselves deeper into a hole". Even China and Russia are now increasing the pressure on Iran to reveal the true extent of their nuclear program.

Is it Irans right to develop nuclear weapons, according to the non-proliferation treaty they shouldn't but as many people maintain, why should USA decide what countries should get the bomb and which country shouldn't. I feel that is not a very correct statement since most states that have developed these weapons are stable and democratic with the exceptions of Pakistan. Russia can be debated since Putin have just decided to increase pressure on NGOs, I will talk about that in a later blogg.

I believe that the international community should put increased pressure on Iran to reveal their program, especially with these new proofs that they are seeking nuclear weapons. I hope that France one day will wake up from their deep sleep or just leave the international arena all together. It would have been easier if they hadn't interfered so much in ascertaining Irans nuclear dreams.

So the question remains, should Iran, led by a (supposed) terrorist, Jalal Talabani, be allowed to develop nuclear weapons? I say no!

Dying for ideology

I read a number of bloggs, communications, documents and other interesting stuff every week, this week I came across a piece from Free (Foundation for Research on Economics and the environment about the Greens fundamental approach to gentically enhanced crops (Del Monte). It is very interesting and thought provoking and I happen to agree with the author in this piece.

Please read it and give me your opinions on it, is the ideology worth dying for? (rather, is the ideology worth letting people die for).

WTO Meeting in Hong Kong

The sixth ministerial meeting of the WTO is coming to my Hometown Hong Kong in the middle of December. I look forward to this meeting and I'll try to get as much information as possible and put on my blogg when the meeting starts.

This meeting is a continuation of the Doha Development Agenda and is scheduled to be in place in 2006. My main hope is that the nations will be able to pass free trade agreements for Africa and also that the EU and USA are forced to reform the perverse agricultural support system. The Agricultural policies of EU is eating away half of the annual budget. Just imagine what we could do with that money instead of throwing it away on people that should do something else with their lives. Imagine the Infrastructure support we could give Romania, the roads are in desperate need of repairs, this would greatly improve the Romanians possibilities to export their goods.

I wonder why Europe's and US politicians fight so hard to keep subventionalised markets, the farmers of Europe can't be more than 2% yet they take 50% of the budget, what are they thinking?

The world needs more free trade and thus far it is only anti globalisation people that are standing in the way of a world where we can actually condemn poverty and hunger to the pages of history. When finally the last trade barrier has been dropped and WTO has announced it shutting down and going home, that is the day when all democratic market economy based nations can look forward to prosperity and the dictators can count their last days in power.

As Bill Clinton said:
"We know today how to fight poverty"
Question is, do we dare to?

Socialist love of terrorists

The Swedish Socialist party has invited a Palestinian to talk at their partymeeting. Now this Palestinian is not just anyone but he is a member of Hamas, an organisation branded terrorists by the US, UN and EU. Strangely enough this person named al-Tamimi is also one of Hamas chief ideologists and a proponent of the extermination of Israel.
Al-Tamimi is born in Hebron on the Westbank and is a leading islamistic ideologe, and he is close to Sheik al-Qaradhawi. Today al-Tamimi is the leader of The institute of islamic political thought situated in London.

Al-Tamimi has in the past called for suicide attacks and that all muslims that are not part of the war against Israel are traitors of Islam, nice guy.
So why is he invited? Probably because socialists in Sweden belive that Palestinians are waging a just war against Israel, socialists has always been a bit weak of mind, reality is a fact best frowned upon.

I think I have finally given up hope about Sweden, I will probably not return to a nation that embraces terrorists and denounces democracies.

Jordanian Blasts

Yet another time suicide bombers have attacked, this time in Jordan.
They hit three hotels in Jordan, one of the hotels was host to a wedding, on what was supposed to be the happiest day in their lifes the bride and groom lost their fathers and 10 more relatives. These families were muslim families simply gathering at a hotel to celebrate their wedding, what was the bomber thinking?

One good thing about this is that Al-Qaida is not very popular now, muslims killing muslims is never good, perhaps one day we will see a Fatwa against Al-Zarqawi. I belive that we are now seeing the swansong of the terrorist agenda in the Middle East, terror organisations can only exist as long as there is some degree of popular support for them, many suicide bombers are convinced that they will be welcome in Paradise after their mission, of course they will not. With vaning support and desillusion about th goals of the insurgency they will die out fast and we can go back to the peacuful world we had before.

The French Revolution 2005

In France right now there are riots, the rioters are young, in some cases as young as 12, second and third generation "immigrants" (one could argue there are no such thing as a second generation immigrant, at least in my mind but apparently not for the papers and politicians). They are rioting against the French society from which they say they feel secluded, they live in the suburbs of Paris in enclaves or some would say ghettos outside the French society.

In my opinion these people are shut out of the French society, 20-30 years ago the French goverment started to neglect these areas that became full of Algerian and Tunisian refugees and immigrants, the French acted like the ostrich and pretended that if they ignored these immigrants they would simply vanish, or at least go away. Well they didn't, now their grandchildren and their greatgrandchildren are out on the streets burning up their own neighbourhoods. That the bulk of the rioters are hardened criminals discontent at the French Interior minister Sarkozy's decision to "clean up these areas with a highpowered hose" can be made clear, but there is also a civil discourse in action, the criminals and their young hangarounds surely act as gasoline on a fire, but the real fire was started 30 years ago with the French ignoring what would erupt today with two French youths hiding from the police in a generator plant and getting to close to the generators.

I am not excusing the criminals that are shooting at the police, burning cars and also yesterday killed an innocent older man, they are scum, however the broader picture is that these people feel left behind and in order for them to come back in we need to restructure society. If we look to the US we can see that there is such a thing as succesful integration of immigrants into society, how then can we do that?

A first step would be to let immigrants work during the period when their case is being judged, another to relinquish the passivisnig grants all people get and the third is to deregulate the workmarket to allow for a more flexible solution.
I believe these steps will be necessary sooner or later and we can expect to see many clashes before the goverments of Europe realise that the money has run out and time is catching up.

Finishing up I predict that when all this is over Sarkozy will be without work, he keeps putting his foot in his mouth and the French, as an opposite to the Swedes actually do political decapitation after messy affairs, pun intended.
