Liberty has never come from the government. Liberty has always come from the subjects of government. The history of liberty is the history of resistance. The history of liberty is a history of the limitation of governmental power, not the increase of it --Woodrow Wilson

Blogging News service

A group of Bloggers led by Roger L. Simon are thinking about creating a news service by Bloggers, i.e. a Reuters or AP of the Blogging community.
I think this is a very good idea, there are many bloggers out there that have news with perspectives that we don't get from the Mainstream Media, also this will probably do a lot to make Blogging more known to people.

I see some worrying things though.

1. Blogging cannot be made a Mainstream Media outlet, we already have that in all the news services and TV channels. The independence, curiosity and brash fullness paired with a disregard of "established" media must be maintained, I would rather see the news service as more of a channel for different interesting bloggs "to get out there"

2. We must realise that Bloggs are biased, they will have to be since they are written by people, the news service cannot lay claim to be impartial or unbiased since that is not the heart and soul of Blogging.

3. I rather not see a US slant, there are thousands upon thousands of Bloggs out there in the world talking about different subjects, how about a Mongolian blogg talking about the perilious relationship with China, or Taiwanese Bloggs. George Bush in all honor but there are other interesting things happening out there that needs a spotlight on them.

If a news service is created using blogs, are those bloggers protected by the laws that govern Jounalism? I also agree with reason 2 and see a problem with the fact that blogs tend to be bias and that a news service should deliver the news impartially.

Ps. We miss you at the Forum.
